Hyaluronidase Treatment

Hyaluronidase treatment is a specialized service offered at Summerlin Dermatology and is a proven method for dissolving unwanted hyaluronic acid (HA) dermal fillers. Whether correcting overfilled areas, addressing complications, or simply reversing previous filler treatments, hyaluronidase provides a safe, effective, and precise way to restore a natural look.

How Does Hyaluronidase Work?

Hyaluronidase is an enzyme-based treatment that breaks down hyaluronic acid, allowing the body to naturally absorb and disperse the filler. This process helps correct misplaced, excessive, or uneven filler injections, restoring facial balance and symmetry.

The procedure involves small injections of hyaluronidase into the treated area, where it begins working immediately to dissolve the HA filler. Full results typically appear within a few days to two weeks.

Benefits of Hyaluronidase Treatment

Hyaluronidase offers a reliable solution for patients who need filler adjustments or removal:

  • Efficient Filler Reversal – Quickly dissolves hyaluronic acid fillers for correction or restoration.

  • Precise Adjustments – Ideal for refining or modifying results without additional filler.

  • Fast-Acting & Safe – Begins working immediately, with results typically visible within a few days.

  • Minimal Downtime – Most patients resume normal activities right after treatment.

  • Customizable Solution – Can be tailored to dissolve only part of the filler, preserving desired enhancements.

Are You a Good Candidate for Hyaluronidase?

Hyaluronidase treatment is ideal for individuals who:

  • Are unhappy with previous dermal filler results and want a correction.

  • Experience lumps, unevenness, or overfilled areas following an HA filler treatment.

  • Developed complications such as vascular occlusion or excessive swelling.

  • Want to refine or dissolve a previous filler without re-injection.

It’s important to note that hyaluronidase only dissolves hyaluronic acid-based fillers (such as JUVÉDERM® and Restylane®). It does NOT work on permanent or non-HA fillers, such as silicone or calcium-based fillers.

What to Expect During & After Treatment

A hyaluronidase treatment session typically lasts 15 to 30 minutes and involves a series of small injections in the target area. During the procedure:

  • The treatment area is cleansed and prepped.

  • A fine needle is used to inject the enzyme solution directly into the filler-treated area.

  • The enzyme begins breaking down the filler almost immediately, with visible improvements within 24 to 48 hours.

Post-Treatment Recovery & Side Effects

  • Mild Swelling or Redness – Temporary swelling, redness, or slight bruising may occur but usually subsides within a few days.

  • Avoid Rubbing the Area – Prevents unintended spread of the enzyme.

  • Allergic Reactions (Rare) – Though uncommon, an allergy test may be performed for sensitive patients.

  • Gradual Skin Restoration – Natural HA levels in the skin normalize within a few weeks.
